Excerpt
Snack plops down on the bed next to where I’m standing. Reaching out for my boxers, he takes the hem between his thumb and forefinger and tugs it lightly. The back of his finger grazes my upper thigh, leaving tingly warmth in its wake. “Nice boxers,” he says. “Whose are they?”
I have no idea. Probably my dad’s or Clip’s. I shrug.
“I’ll bring you some of mine. I only want you wearing mine from now on.”
“Uh, O-Kay.” I stutter in response to his demand and most definitely his touch. I have no problem with that. Must be another one of Snack’s weird possessive things.
Snack twists the fabric of my boxers around his fingers and pulls me toward him. “Come here and kiss me. I can’t believe you haven’t kissed me yet.”
My heart thumps out of control and my brain is frozen. I’ve heard actors say things like that in movies, but in real life? I guess it does actually happen.
Sabrina's Review
Thank you to Emme Burton for allowing me the opportunity to read Snack! I had a feeling I would love this and I wasn't disappointed! I was hooked into this story within the first few pages and
it was very hard to put down!
The story was told from Minnie’s point of view. She was such
a gorgeous character, and she had me in her pocket with Eggroll and Wook from
the very start! As a little girl she suffered a loss, but when she connected
with Snack, she found someone to belong to. I loved their interactions as
children, and the author wrote these scenes from the past beautifully, weaving
them into the story as Minnie and Snack grew up, giving us just enough to keep
us wanting more. I felt so full of the love these two had for each other.
But the course of love isn’t easy, and there were some
crashes along the way. At each downward turn, my heart ached for Minnie and for
Snack, from the first scene where she was a vulnerable little girl, to her
heartbreaks later.
There are plenty of feels, but this isn’t a sad story.
There’s lighthearted warmth, and so much love, and fun and hope. I wanted to
stay there and become part of this family! One thing that stood out to me was
that there wasn’t a character I didn’t like in this story. Even the side
characters were realistic and human. Minnie’s antics and humor made me smile
and laugh. Her father was funny and endearing and had a lot of depth, her
brothers were typical brothers who sometimes got things right and sometimes
wrong, and Snack’s mom was lovely too, with the Snackenberg hugs.
And of course Snack… I fell for him from the very first
pages and later, with his dirty-not-dirty talk… swoon!
I highly recommend this book, and I can’t wait to read a
whole lot more from Emme Burton!
